St. Remiel

This window depicts the Archangel Remiel, sometimes called "Jeremiel." Two symbolic images are shown in the window: At the top, the city of Jerusalem and at the bottom, the empty tomb of Jesus with women looking on. Remiel is among the angels that stand before God because he is assigned to lead those out of hell who come up to judgment on the last day. He is called the 'Resurrection Angel' and is believed to be a prominent angel on Easter morning. Remiel is chief of thunder and is believed to be the angel that appeared between the walls of Jerusalem and the invading army of the Assyrian King Sennacherib. The army was struck with a plaque and returned to Ninevah, the Assyrian capital. The city of Jerusalem honors Remiel as its protector.
This window is dedicated to the glory of God and in memory of Augustus Scott King, who died of complications from cancer in January 1993, shortly after he had been accepted to The University of South Carolina Law School.
