St. Gabriel
|
|
The Archangel Gabriel window depicts an angel with a trumpet. "Gabriel, blow your horn" is part of the religious lore of Christianity. The trumpet announces an event or calls forth a host of angels. Gabriel is the angel of holy announcement. He announces both the incarnation of Jesus and his resurrection (notice the Easter lily in the window). Gabriel frees Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace. Mohammad described Gabriel as "the angel of one hundred forty pairs of wings" who dictated to him the Koran. Gabriel is the second- highest-ranking angel in the three monotheistic religions. He lives in paradise and presides over the souls destined to be saved. |
