ALTAR GUILD

SERVICE

Liturgics
The Liturgics Commission oversee liturgy at all levels of parish life to assure quality, honor creativity, and be a knowledgeable resource in the Book of Common Prayer and the Church’s theology of worship.

Ushers
Four individuals are needed at the 10:30am Sunday service and two people are needed at the 8:00am Sunday service to distribute bulletins, to pass the offertory plates, and to direct the flow of people to the altar rail at Communion. Ushers work in teams and commit themselves to one Sunday every six weeks.

Greeters
Greeters extend a warm welcome to visitors and parishioners before and after all Sunday Services. A warm smile and friendly handshake are all you need to become a greeter. Greeters work in teams and commit themselves to one Sunday every four weeks.

Lay Readers/Chalice Bearers
Lay Readers are responsible for reading the Lessons and/or the "Prayers of the People." Chalice bearers assist the celebrant by distributing the consecrated wine at communion. Lay Readers and Chalice Bearers complete a training course and must be licensed by the Bishop. Lectors—readers who come forward from the congregation— are trained by the rector.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers
Lay Eucharistic Ministers are licensed by the Bishop to distribute the consecrated elements to sick and homebound persons within the parish.

Altar Guild

Members of the Altar Guild prepare the altar for all Sunday Services, mid-week services, weddings and funerals. Training is provided on an on-going basis. This important ministry is open to both men and women.

Flower/Window Committee

No experience is necessary to prepare and arrange flowers on the altar or windows for Sunday, mid-week services, weddings and funerals. Training is provided on an on-going basis.

Acolytes
Youth, grades 5 and up, assist the celebrant at the altar on Sundays, at weddings and funerals. Additional responsibilities include carrying the torches, flags, cross and Gospel Book. Training session are offered throughout the year. Maturity is an important consideration for participation as an acolyte.
